Jun 15, 2012: U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Janet Napolitano announces the prosecutorial discretion for a specific group of young individuals in the U.S.  This program is later coined as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).

 

Jun 18, 2012: DHS hosts a Stakeholder Conference to inform the public the eligibility criteria for DACA.  U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Service (USCIS) Director Alejandro Mayorkas, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Director John Morton, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner David Aguilar were all in attendance.

 

Aug 3, 2012:  DHS convened a second Stakeholder Conference to inform the public the eligibility criteria for DACA.  USCIS Director Alejandro Mayorkas provide in depth information about the DACA program and announced the USCIS DACA website.

 

Aug 14, 2012:  DHS convened a third Stakeholder Conference to inform the public the eligibility criteria for DACA.  USCIS Director Alejandro Mayorkas announcing Forms I-812D, I-765 and I-765WS as the relevant government forms.

 

Sep 12, 2012:  LawLogix publishes an important article providing more information on how potential DACA applicants can seek free or low-cost, legitimate legal assistance.

 

Sep 14, 2012:  USCIS published DACA statistics indicating the following:  82,361 applications received

 

Oct 12, 2012:  USCIS published DACA statistics indicating the following:

  • 179,794 applications received
  • 4,591 applications approved

 

Nov 16, 2012:  USCIS published DACA statistics indicating the following:

  • 298,834 applications accepted
  • 53,273 applications approved
  • Top 3 countries of origin: 1) Mexico 2) El Salvador 3) Honduras
  • Top 3 states of residence: 1) California 2) Texas 3) New York

 

Nov 19, 2012:  USCIS Director Alejandro Mayorkas convened a Stakeholder Conference to answer questions related to the DACA application process.

 

Nov 27, 2012:  USCIS published in the Federal Register a request for comments on proposed revisions to the Form I-131, Travel Document Application, which relate to the DACA application process.  (Read the articles about them here and here.)

 

Dec 14, 2012:  USCIS published DACA statistics indicating the following:

  • 355,889 applications accepted
  • 102,965 applications approved

 

Jan 18, 2013:  USCIS published DACA statistics indicating the following:

  • 394,533 applications accepted
  • 154,404 applications approved

 

Feb 15, 2013:  USCIS published DACA statistics indicating the following:

  • 423,634 applications accepted
  • 199,460 applications approved

 

Mar 15, 2013:  USCIS published DACA statistics indicating the following:

  • 453,589 applications accepted
  • 245,493 applications approved

 

Apr 12, 2013:  USCIS published DACA statistics indicating the following:

  • 472,004 applications accepted
  • 268,361 applications approved
  • 1,377 applications denied

 

May 17, 2013:  USCIS published DACA statistics indicating the following:

  • 497,960 applications accepted
