Senate Judiciary Committee Completes S.744 Markup – Votes 13-5 in Support

In early May, the Senate Judiciary Committee members filed 301 amendments to S.744.  It was an arduous long couple of weeks of debate during the Senate Judiciary Committee meetings to mark up the bill.  The public interest during the markup period was intense, as evidenced by minute-by-minute tweets and daily articles of each passing day that meetings for markup occurred. Of the 161 amendments actually discussed during the Committee markup hearings, the amendment below were adopted and added to S.744 immigration bill.  Read the recap offered by Senator Marco Rubio here.

In the weeks to come, the Congressional Budget Office will conduct a review of the fiscal impact on the current immigration bill, as amended with the above adopted amendments.  This will allow the Senate to debate the bill as early as the Monday, June 10th.  Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has signaled that he won’t block the bill, an important indicator for the battle to come on the Senate Floor. We’ll have to see how the debate unfolds in June.  Stay tuned in to the Case Management Guru for more immigration reform developments.
