E-Verify For Federal Contractors
Are all financial institutions, specifically banks, considered federal contractors for the purpose of complying with E-Verify?
Unfortunately, this issue was not addressed in the E-Verify federal contractor regulation and the DHS has declined to offer specific guidance. Generally speaking, a bank/financial institution might be subject to the E-Verify Federal Contractor rule if it receives contracts from a government agency for banking services – accepting and cashing government check and other payment instruments, accepting direct deposits, accepting payments to the government from the public such as excise taxes and duties, maintaining government bank accounts, etc. The best point of contact for contract specific questions is the department or individual responsible for administering the contract for the institution.
